SYSBS Student Nominated as the 26th Summer Universiade Torchbearer and over Four Hundred Students Serve as Security Volunteers

Torch relay for the 26th Summer Universiade was held in Guangzhou Higher Education Mega Center (HEMC) on Sunday morning, May 15th. This was also the last stop of the torch relay on campus.

A total of 100 torchbearers were involved in the Universiade torch relay through HEMC, commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Revolution of 1911. Among them, there were 52 students, five teacher and representatives from diverse fields including Hu Jia, Lao Lishi, Xian Dongmei. The relay started its trip from the arch of Sun Yat-Sen University, then headed toward Waihuan East Road, later made a trip across Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, finally ended in SYSU after traveling along Zhonghuan East Road. This relay fully demonstrated the splendidness of Universiade, "Back to Youth, Back to Campus."

Lin Minghua, a Grade 2008 student from the department of Finance and Investment, who has participated in several academic subject researches, captured the championship of the first Kunshan Cup National Entrepreneurship Competition, and crowned SYSU’s Top Ten People of the year 2010, became one of nine torchbearers after fierce competition. He accomplished the torch relay successfully with the cheer of the crowd along the road and demonstrated the special elegance of students of our school.

Besides a total of 429 students participated in the torch relay as security volunteers under the guidance of Wu Jialin,?a teacher from the Student Affairs Office. On the day, they arrived at the spot early. They did not only contribute to guaranteeing the safety on the spot, but also cheered for the torchbearers. Even though it was spotting with rain, they still waved national flag and the flag of Universiade and expressed their excitement. Everyone could sense the happiness in the air.
