CGTN:Guangzhou rolls out e-CNY in latest pilot scheme
The People's Bank of China, the country's central bank, has rolled out digital yuan pilots in eleven additional cities from this month. Guangzhou is among the latest to join the pilot scheme.?

Chen Zhuming Professor, Sun Yat-Sen University, School of Business "It's a matter of national financial security. Take Alipay for example. At its peak, I believe 60 percent of all mobile payments in China went through Alipay. Having such an enormous amount of money essentially controlled by a private company is extremely unsafe. The digital yuan is issued by the central bank and backed by a sovereign nation's credibility? our money is in the safest hands."

In Guangzhou, e-CNY can also be used in public transport and as subsidies to selected high-level talent. But analysts expect further trials in the future, including cross-border transactions. Huang Fei, CGTN, Guangzhou.
