Brief Introduction to the lecture：
Start with a definition of culture and will show how we develop different cultures in our reactions to the social and to the natural environment. Then present two social models, one in which the person has remained part of the group, and one where it has detached itself. Concluded with how these differences affect management in general and personnel management in particular, both from a point of view of behaviour and of thinking patterns.
Speaker’s Biography:
Hans J. Roth was born in Switzerland in 1951, studies in history, economics and social psychology in Basel, Geneva, Beijing, Rome, and Hagen, Germany. He has a PhD in economic history and is specialized in intercultural management. Hans J. Roth entered the Foreign Ministry as a career diplomat in 1982 and spent most of his professional life in Japan and China.
Hans J. Roth is the author of ?Managing China“ (2007), ?Leitfaden China“ (2008) and of a comparative theory of culture with the title ?Kultur, Raum und Zeit“ (2012). His new book on ?Die Krise des Westens – eine Krise des Individualismus“ was published in autumn 2013. Apart from his German mother tongue he speaks fluent French, English and Chinese and has a good knowledge of Italian and Japanese.
